Greetings from Crater of Diamonds State Park! Since the discovery of diamonds in Arkansas in 1906, prospectors have sought efficient new ways to search for this precious stone. Many of the early mine engineers who worked in the Arkansas mines had experience working in the African mines and would implement practices and equipment used in the African mines.

Seven-year-old Aspen Brown, of Paragould, visited Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro on Sept. 1 and left with a 2.95-carat golden brown diamond. Brown’s find is the second-largest registered by a park guest this year, topped only by a 3.29-carat brown diamond discovered in March.

Greetings from the Crater of Diamonds State Park! While diamonds come in all colors of the rainbow, diamonds found at the Crater of Diamonds are white, brown, or yellow. More than 60% of Crater diamonds are white, 20% are brown and less than 20% are yellow. A diamond’s color is influenced by its journey from deep within the earth to the surface.
