Razorbacks Play Season’s First Game at War Memorial Stadium

Several Agencies Working Together to Create Successful Event

The Arkansas Razorbacks will play their season opener on August 31st when they take on the Florida A&M Rattlers War Memorial Stadium.  Gates to the stadium open at 5:00 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism is working in conjunction with Arkansas State Police, the Little Rock Police Department, the Highway Department, the Veterans Administration and UAMS security to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.

$35 tickets are still available and can be purchased at the War Memorial Stadium box office. About War Memorial Stadium

  • The Arkansas legislature built the venue for $1.2 million, and it opened in 1948. 
  • The stadium is formally dedicated to the memory of all Arkansas Veterans who gave their lives in while serving in the military.  
  • The stadium’s capacity has expanded over the years. Originally it could seat 31, 075 and today it is able to hold 54,120.
  • In 2010, a $7.3 million renovation that featured a new, three-story press box and major improvements in club seating was completed.
  • The stadium also hosts other sporting events.  The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff play some of their football games at War Memorial. Two local high schools, Benton (Saline County) and Bryant (Saline County), use it to play their rivalry game, the Salt Bowl, which draws an average of 20,000 fans. In addition, Little Rock Catholic High School plays all of its home games at the stadium.  The Arkansas Activities Association’s annual high school football championship games are also played there.
  • War Memorial is also home to the Little Rock Rangers soccer team.
  • Beyond sports, War Memorial has hosted numerous concerts by such acts as such the Rolling Stones, the Eagles, Elton John, Billy Joel, George Strait, N’Sync and Guns and Roses.  
  • During the 2017 session, Governor Asa Hutchinson placed War Memorial Stadium under the direction of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.
  • It is listed on the Arkansas Register of Historic Places.
